Breaking: ‘Suspicious’ Wonder Lake fire causes $90K in damages, officials say

A Wonder Lake garage was heavily damaged overnight in what officials are investigating as a suspicious fire.

Wonder Lake Fire Protection District was dispatched just before midnight Thursday to the 7400 block of Hickory Trail for a reported garage fire. The fire had started in the attached garage and caused some smoke and fire damage to the home, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandra Rogers.

A couple in their 90s was home at the time, and neighbors woke them up and got them out of their house, Wonder Lake Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike Weber said.

“There has been a little bit of a crime spree that happened in the subdivision [Thursday,]” Weber said. “We are not sure yet but we are treating it as a suspicious fire right now.”
