CNN came under fire in May after the younger Cuomo had his brother on his show and the two yukked it up about brotherly rivalries as the coronavirus pandemic ravaged the country.

CNN said in a statement that it made an exception to a longstanding rule in that moment to let the brothers appear on the air together, but that moment has passed.

‘The early months of the pandemic crisis were an extraordinary time,’ the network said in a statement, the New York Post reported. ‘We felt that Chris speaking with his brother about the challenges of what millions of American families were struggling with was of significant human interest.

CNN bans Chris Cuomo from covering his brother, NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo

This CNN video still shows New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, right, on his younger brother Chris Cuomo’s TV show “Cuomo Prime Time” in May 2020.

Gov. Cuomo appeared on his younger brother’s evening TV show, ‘Cuomo Prime Time,’ multiple times during the coronavirus pandemic last year. Chris Cuomo spoke about his experiences testing positive for Covid-19 and often bantered with the governor, including jokes about test swabs and Andrew Cuomo’s celebrity status as the ‘Love Gov.’

CNN says it reinstated a ban on Chris Cuomo covering his brother, Gov. Cuomo

Last year, Chris Cuomo repeatedly interviewed his older brother about the coronavirus pandemic, engaging in often-cringey banter that initially helped boost the ratings for the 9 p.m. ‘Cuomo Prime Time.’

That’s despite coverage on other CNN shows, including Sunday’s ‘State of the Union,’ on which host Jake Tapper criticized the state Health Department’s since-rescinded March 25 directive for nursing homes to admit COVID-19 patients.

‘So Gov. Cuomo, who has declined to appear on this show despite dozens of requests over the past year, including this past week, made a bad decision that may have cost lives,’ Tapper said.

CNN reinstates ban on Chris Cuomo featuring family despite early interviews with brother Andrew

CNN has allegedly reinstated a ban on host Chris Cuomo interviewing his brother, Andrew, despite allowing the New York governor to appear on his show more than ten times last year.

The network was questioned by the Washington Post on Tuesday after Chris, 50, failed to mention his 63-year-old brother while addressing the biggest stories related to COVID-19 on his show the previous night.

What do Australians think of Facebook’s news ban?

More than three million Texans remain without power Wednesday. Some have gone four days without electricity after a rare winter storm slammed the state and created bitterly cold, icy and borderline-unlivable conditions.

The Texas senator Ted Cruz was under increasing pressure on Thursday to explain why he apparently flew to Cancun, Mexico, abandoning millions in his home state who are freezing in a devastating winter storm that left millions without power or water and claimed dozens of lives. The firebrand Republican travelled to the Yucatan holiday resort on Wednesday with his family, according to Fox News, which said it confirmed the trip with a party source after images of Cruz in an airport departure lounge and on board an aircraft bound for Mexico circulated on social media. ‘The photos speak for themselves,’ Fox quoted the source as saying. Other media outlets including Axios and CNN said on Thursday they also confirmed Mr Cruz’s mystery trip. It came as the state’s woes deepened, with major new winter storm forecast to sweep across Texas Thursday. Officials warned Texans not to expect respite from sub-zero temperatures until at least Saturday, with the National Weather Service predicting tornadoes, bitter cold and more heavy snow from the fresh storm.
