Provincetown man charged with $30000 fraud

PROVINCETOWN — Kerry Adams, 58, of Provincetown pleaded not guilty on Sept. 12 at Orleans District Court to charges related to an alleged fraud in which he stole $30,000 from his friend Barry Clifford after claiming he needed the money to collect a $4 million inheritance from his estranged father.

According to a report by Provincetown Police Det. Rich Alves, Clifford stated that Adams asked to borrow $30,000 on June 14, 2018 to pay fees associated with getting the inheritance. Adams said the money was located in a “storage/holding” company in Texas.

“Adams told Clifford if he lent him the money, he could release his inheritance and Clifford would be repaid in double,” Alves wrote.
