In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, the United States faced a major problem: A lack of public testing, which allowed those who could afford expensive tests to receive them but left those who couldn’t guessing about symptoms.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, NBA commissioner Adam Silver ‘couldn’t abide’ by the idea of players who weren’t exhibiting symptoms simply paying for tests that could be used elsewhere.

‘Once the NBA shared its guidelines with teams on protocols for bringing players into the facility for workouts, it prohibited the use of tests on players unless they were showing Covid-19 symptoms, sources said,’ Wojnarowski wrote.
