Police investigate suspicious fire at Centre Street home

Calgary police have taken over the investigation into an early morning fire that broke out inside a fourplex in the city’s north end. Fire crews were called to the scene, on Centre Street N.

Firefighters quickly knocked down a small fire inside a fourplex on Centre Street early Friday morning.

Fire crews were called to the scene, on Centre Street N. near 34 Avenue N.W., for reports of a fire on the third floor of the building.

Officials say the two residents who live at the unit fled the scene before firefighters got there and haven’t been seen since.

The people who live at the other three units in the building all managed to get out safely and were able to return home once crews cleared the scene.

The Calgary Police Service diverted northbound traffic on Stoney Trail in the city’s southeast following a Thursday night crash.

Year In Review 2018 – News Letter Journal

Amanda Bench and Ginger Fields were named the 2018 Person of the Year for their self-funded program Sweet Country Angels, which provides homes for cats at risk of euthanasia. Bench and Fields have been rescuing local cats for about six years, spending at least $15,000 and rescuing an estimated 800-900 cats. Bench and Fields re-home the various stray cats they find and the unclaimed cats picked up by the city. They fund the program from their own pockets, along with donations from people in the community. Both women said they were happy to be chosen the 2018 Person of the Year.

The State Loan and Investment Board approved funding for the railcar repair and cleaning facility at Upton Logistics Park. Tiger Transfer LLC, which owns the park, operates a BNSF-designated premier transload facility, specializing in efficient rail service. The proposed railcar repair operation brings hopes of providing an added boost to the local economy because it will bring with it a number of jobs over the next couple years. The SLIB board approved the $3 million grant and $3 million loan for the construction of the building and fixed equipment.’

November Gilpin County Sheriff reports – The Mountain

On 11/1/18 at approximately 3 p.m., a deputy responded to 660 Eureka Street for a found wallet. The owner of the wallet was later found, and arrangements were made to have the wallet picked up.

On 11/2/18 at approximately 10:40 a.m., the Gilpin County Sheriffs Office received a report of a motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of Eureka Street in Central City. A deputy responded and located the unoccupied vehicle. The vehicle had substantial damage and had contacted/snapped a ballard post and an electric box. The vehicle was partially into the roadway and was also blocking a fire hydrant. The vehicle was impounded. The driver of the vehicle was contacted the next day and issued a summons.
