At a time when automakers are only producing automatic transmission cars, the Blue Oval is saving the three-pedal setup from going extinct.

Details given. This information was provided.

While you’re here, how about this:

2020 Ford Bronco Could Come With a 7

The rumor mill is working overtime thanks to the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco once again, but this time it doesn’t have to do with its looks, the number of doors it will have, or whether it will be a lame-o crossover or rugged off-roader. Nope, this time it has to do with its transmission, as rumor has it that the all-new Bronco could get a seven-speed manual.

Sources close to the Bronco’s development told Jalopnik that Ford is working closely with transmission manufacturer Getrag to implement a row-your-own box into the upcoming stallion. The sources went as far as saying that the transmission itself is dubbed MT-88, and that future owners will most likely have the option to pair it to Ford’s capable 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine with 325 horsepower.

Rumor: 2020 Ford Bronco Could Get a 7-Speed Manual Transmission, And That’s Awesome

If you lament the fact that you can count the number of modern trucks with manual transmissions on one hand, this comes as welcome news. Sources close to’Jalopnik disclosed Ford may end up putting a seven-speed manual in the 2020 Ford Bronco. Yes, a’seven-speed manual transmission (here’s looking at you, Chevy Corvette and Porsche 911). The company reportedly went to Getrag to source the transmission ‘ dubbed MT-88 ‘ for the highly anticipated Bronco revival. That transmission will likely come paired to Ford’s 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine, currently used in the F-150 and across some Ford and Lincoln cars.

Ford Bronco Might Get A Seven-Speed Manual Transmission

Folks, it’s only a rumor, but it’s a glimmer of hope for those who still love rowing gears. Jalopnik is reporting that Ford will turn to Getrag for an honest-to-goodness manual transmission in the 2020 Bronco. Not just any gearbox mind you, but a freaking seven-speed cog-swapper. Really? Yeah, really.

The realist in us is pessimistic on such a gambit. Manual transmissions account for such a small portion of vehicle sales in the U.S. that it’s virtually impossible to make a financial case for offering one. Furthermore, a seven-speed manual in the Bronco just doesn’t seem like a good fit for an off-roader. However, there are some factoids that give us hope, and the first one actually stems from Jeep. The Wrangler already offers a six-speed manual, and from what we’ve seen thus far, Ford will likely aim the Bronco directly at Wrangler buyers.
