A new report by the New York Times on Monday, however, stated that members of UEFA’s investigating chamber (IC) recommended a one-season ban from the Champions League. It would be a particularly devastating punishment for the Manchester side, who have repeatedly targeted the coveted European trophy as their main ambition as a club.

Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola handed Champions League touchline ban

Guardiola was sent to the stands in the second leg of City’s quarterfinal against Liverpool in April, and has now been handed a two-match ban, with one of those suspended for a one-year probationary period.

Meanwhile, Liverpool were fined ‘20,000 (‘17,567) for the incidents in the first leg against City, including “acts of damage” likely related to the throwing of bottles at the City bus as it arrived at Anfield.

The bus was so damaged that it could not make the return trip to Manchester, and Liverpool condemned its fans’ “completely unacceptable” behaviour.

UEFA could ban Manchester City from UCL over FFP

German magazine Der Spiegel made a number’of claims against City last month in a series of articles based on documents purportedly attained from whistleblower’Football Leaks.

Der Spiegel’s reporting accused Sheikh Mansour’s City regime of topping up multi-million pound sponsorship deals with Abu Dhabi companies, using its owner’s fortune, in order to meet UEFA’s FFP stipulations.

Further allegations claimed City was cut a favourable FFP settlement when it was punished for overspending by UEFA in 2014.

The Premier League champion’dismissed the stories and said “the attempt to damage the club’s reputation is organised and clear”.
